While I'm on the subject, I'd like to recommend a remarkable book outlining a holistic, integrative approach to overcoming depression. It's Unstuck, by James S. Gordon, MD (Penguin: New York, 2008), which is based on the seven stages of the hero's journey as described by the late Joseph Campbell in his books such as The Hero With a Thousand Faces. Dr. Gordon is a founder of the Center for Mind Body Medicine; he recommends bringing a number of techniques and strategies to bear in dealing with depression, including nutrition, Chinese medicine, yoga, meditation and exercise. Dr. Gordon is, like me, suspicious of claims of efficacy and safety for pharmaceutical drugs, although he can express his misgivings more cogently and comprehensively than I can.
I've been advising my friends who are deeply depressed that they can't afford to wait until this tome comes out in paperback. I think this may well be the compilation of disparate key clues on this subject that I've been waiting decades to discover. Check it out: http://www.jamesgordonmd.com/unstuck-self-healing-depression.html

Although I was looking forward to this, I had a previous commitment that was going to prevent me from attending' now it looks as though that event will be postponed. I live in Northside and don't currently drive, so if anyone would be willing to bring me from here, Clifton, downtown or thereabouts (and back), I would very much appreciate it. Please contact me at tendernessjunction (at) yahoo if you don't have my telephone number. Thank you in advance for your kindness and consideration.

Hope to attend, awaiting word of when my daughter's school play opening night might occur.... might be the same night. I hope not. What a wonderful gift Mag is bringing to life.

Hi, ASG community members!

Mag asked if I'd help her let everyone know about this event, to be presented by The Phoenix Place on February 5th at Clermont College.

There's a blog post about The Phoenix Place and a PDF of their workshop flyer over here.
